From IMDb's "trivia" section for Lost:
The production budget for the two-hour pilot was $12 million, far greater than the cost of most television shows. This led to Disney firing ABC Entertainment Chairman Lloyd Braun for greenlighting the show, which went on to became ABC's biggest hit in years.
Fucking idiots. Does this type of thing bother anyone else? Because it annoys the living shit out of me that there are people whose sole job it is it tell OTHER people what they should be doing with their talents and ideas. And yet if I were to punch one of them, I'd be the one arrested!
My only problem is that I'm not the person in charge of telling people what to do with their talents and ideas.
ReplyDeleteI could keep stupid shit off the airwaves.
Well, some of these ideas for shows, it's like what we were discussing at the football game. It is like "Don't people realize this is the stupidest premise for anything ever?" But I suppose that is exactly how these execs were thinking when they canned Mr. Braun, so I shouldn't comment. "Hail Mary" could be a hit.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, network TV really isn't the place for originality. Every new Series now has to be like the Amityville Horror meets the OC in a pathetic attempt to recreate Lost. "Mommy you smell different". Sorry kid, that ain't your mom, that's this pathetic piece of crap show be it Invasion or Surface or Supernatural or any other knockoff.
Don't feel bad for Mr. Braun. He might have gotten shafted in the short run, but now his name will be tied to 'Lost' and he will become a hot commodity for the sole reason that the company that picks him up can now take a steaming pile of crap show, toss his name on it and title it: "From the executive producer of 'Lost'"
ReplyDeleteHe'll get his money.
I'm not worried about him getting his money, I'm worried about what an alarmingly common practice it is for people in charge (especially of money) to make decisions on things they know nothing about. There's nothing more dangerous than a resourceful idiot.
