Dudes,
Since football season is closer than you probably think, I went in and made some updates to the FF league. Nothing drastic, but you'll find the changes detailed below... you can see all these in the "Recent Transactions" board our league's Yahoo site, but I figured this would be the best place to collect them and discuss as a group. Here they be:
League
1) Draft Time - Set for Saturday, August 30th at 1pm CST. Let me know as soon as you can if this is bad for you.
2) Playoffs - Playoffs?? Playoffs are now Weeks 15 & 16. I did this to avoid having the Super Bowl during the Week 17 wasteland... and also to have an even number matchups (you'll now play every team twice).
Points System
1) Defensive Point tiers - You'll now get a varying amount of points relative to how many your defense allows during the game... no more "all-or-nothing" scenarios that depend upon a shutout. A shutout is still worth 2000, but you can also earn the following:
1-6 points allowed: 1000
7-13 points allowed: 500
14-20 points allowed: 250
Then zero for 21+. There are categories for 21-27, 28-34 and 35+, but I didn't use them... though I like that we have the option, especially since it gave me an awesome idea for the Mistakes League!! This is my favorite update of the season and the one I feel we should keep through the ages. Do the above figures look OK to everyone?
2) Kickoff & Punt Return touchdowns - This wasn't checked by default, but I activated it and made it worth 600.
3) Bonus Offense - Just for fun I added a Level 2 bonus that's awarded if you have a QB who somehow manages to throw for 500 yards in a single game, or someone who rushes or receives for 300... all of which are worth 1000.
I also eliminated the bonus for Return Yards. Actual yardage and touchdowns are still worth the same amount as their rushing and receiving counterparts, but if you want to rack up bonuses at the WR slot you're going to have to play an actual WR. Sorry. :)
As a side note, Yahoo lets you specify up to three bonuses... so if we wanted we could increment these differently, or even decrease everything else and making the Level 3 bonus worth an absurd amount of points (the game-breaking nuclear play??).
Rosters
1) Flex spot - WR/RB is in. WR/TE is out.
2) That's it, really. Do we want any changes to the rosters? I'm not talking about the core mechanics (we'll keep 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, etc.), or even Mike & The Mechanics, but do we want to look into an additional flex spot or more bench room? I thought about increasing the latter from 8 to 10, but I don't want teams to start hoarding, like those people you sometimes see on the news who have like 300 cats.
Let me know what you all think... in the meantime, I'll be crafting a customary new Avatar for the coming mayhem.

Well, I personally disagree with removing return yards from WRs ... especially because those who complain that other people (like me) use it "unfairly" have done so for a few YEARS and it's not much of a "secret" (as listed in the scoring rules all that time). And if we don't have the ability to gain points for return yards, what good is getting points for return touchdowns seeing as playing anyone for that reason becomes unfeasible? But that's just me.
ReplyDeleteAll the other changes seem fine though except draft time. Is it possible to do it the following day on Sunday (anytime that day is fine) or sometime after 6 pm PST on Saturday? I work Mon-Sat and in my new department, taking an hour off is harder to do than before.
And when do we start the All Mistakes league? I'm looking forward to that and it'd be nice to do that draft relatively close to the regular one (I think the normal one takes about an hour-hour and a half so a two hour gap should work unless someone remembers exactly the length of previous drafts). This would be another case of me really needing it to be on a Sunday ... August 31 still my preferred date.
I don't mind having the Return Yards on there, but the points for return yards should only be activated after you return Punts/Kickoffs for 100+ yards and then for 10 or 25 yard increments over 100. That way there is some risk involved in taking a WR that mostly returns kicks, but a big reward for taking that risk. Dunno if we can make this happen.
ReplyDeleteI do know that I am going to draft Lionel Richie.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mr. BBBB . Hell, I had Hester last year and still came out 4th in the league, so it really didn't make all that much of a difference in the end. I also agree on doing it on a Sunday, since Sunday's were made for draftin'!
ReplyDeleteOh noes! I'm logged in as gucac!
ReplyDeleteah, much better.
ReplyDeleteDraft time changed to Sunday, 8/31 at 1pm CST. I meant to schedule it on that day in the first place, and just entered Saturday by mistake. Thus my legacy of incompetence begins!
ReplyDeleteAs far a kick returns go - you're still getting points for return yards. Any offensive player (I just used WRs as an example because I'm not aware of any teams that have a RB or TE returning kicks) who returns a punt or kickoff still gets credit for the yards they return, at the same value as rushing or receiving yards. They just won't get a bonus once their return yard total reaches 100.
ReplyDeleteAll I did was take off the bonus, since it's unbalanced compared to how much work players at skill positions have to do in their normal roles to post the same number of yards. What's the average length of a reception in the NFL compared to the average punt/kick return? Half, maybe? Does 250 points for 100 return yards sound fair, then, or do you guys want the whole 500?
Either way, I don't think it's unfair to use this aspect of the scoring system to your advantage if it's in play. That's just smart. People can't complain just because they didn't read the directions.
Also, Ken, the reason Hester didn't make a difference for you is because he couldn't - no one would kick to him after the first 6 games.
ReplyDeleteIncorrect. See the New Orleans game :) (not that it mattered at that point.) :D
