I don't know... I appreciate the attempt to revive the franchise, but this gritty re-telling of all the characters' origins doesn't exactly remind me of Batman Begins. This seems more on the level of a direct-to-video Punisher sequel.
The cast looks decent, and the actual fighting could be pretty good... but Reptile as the victim of a rare, horrendous birth defect? Baraka as an insane ex-surgeon? Like I said... I don't know.
I actually thought the semi-campy atmosphere of the first movie was perfect. It didn't take itself too seriously, but had enough fan service to please people who liked the games. Plus the martial arts were pretty well done and it had a cool metal/industrial soundtrack.
Things didn't get God-awful until the second movie. "It's my animality... isn't it cool??"
The posting is weird here. You may just want to look it up on youtube. It is awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy initial reaction... "WHAT!?!?"

I think it was better than the first (and by extension the second) actual MK movie. Much better.

What I don't get is, if this Shang Tsung guy's so great, why does he have such a crummy actor portaying him?
